Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Vincent Corica on September 5, 2018:

I was privileged to spend a good deal of time with Butch as his C-2 roommate on a few occasions. It is my loss that he and I fell out of touch after graduation.

There's a word I have come to value deeply at my stage of life. That word is "authentic" and it describes our classmate , Butch. He was always open and authentic. He openly adored the things he truly loved...his hometown, his family, his Martha. He openly spent scant time dealing with things which in his judgement were not worth his love. An authentically generous teammate and comrade, Butch would give you the shirt off his back, which he indeed did do for me once when the Cadet Laundry failed to return one of mine in time for a formation.

The twinkle in his eye when he smiled, his joyful out-loud laugh, his classy and deeply Southern accent...these are the personal things about Butch that I fondly remember.

"When a good one of us is lost, a good part of all of us is lost."

Farewell, Brother Butch. Be thou at peace.
