I was Randy's roommate during a good part of the first (Plebe) year. Boy, did he have a hard time! But he took it all with a great sense of humor and became the one around whom we'd all congregate late Sunday afternoons when time came to bone up on "The Days" for the following week. Throughout the four years at West Point, Randy retained that same characteristic pluck and was always fun to be around. At the 20-year Reunion, Randy was there, in some obvious difficulty related to his illness, but masking it so well with his enthusiasm for being there that one never thought to bring it (his illness) up in conversation. We were all saddened and sorrowed at his loss. |
