Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Rick Carney on October 13, 2015:

My name is Rick Carney. I went to elementary military school with Ken. We became good friends and decided to be roommates when we entered St. John's Military Academy as high school freshmen. We roomed together for two years. Senior year Ken was Cadet Captain of our company and I was 1LT. Ken went to military school from 1st grade through graduation from West Point. A military career was in his blood. I was convinced he would have been a General Officer some day. We stayed in touch during college and after. I have been the organizer of most of the gatherings of our St. John's Class of 1965. We remember Ken whenever we meet. The last reunion was this year for our 50th anniversary. As a class we have donated to St. John's a flag in honor of Maj. Kenneth J. Yonan. This dedication is on the Field of Flags that honor Military hero's. I helped raise the flag this past homecoming weekend during a stunning ceremony that included the entire Battalion formation solely for the honor of Ken's Flag.
I have read the other Eulogy's above. I would like to say that I may not be able to judge if Ken's path was the will of God as I'm sure Ken did. However, as a mortal human I want to say I miss Ken today as I have for all these years. I would have loved to have Ken participate in all the reunions and gatherings the SJMA class of 1965 has had over the years. We all miss you Ken and will continue to remember you until our last man is standing.
