Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bill Spracher '70 on March 18, 2012:

Larry and I were roommates for one month during the summer of 1968 while serving on the Beast Barracks cadre for 6th New Cadet Co. Although we weren't in the same company during the academic year, I enjoyed that short time being Larry's assistant squad leader while we tried to mold the new cadets of the Class of 1972. One of our favorite pastimes during the occasional free time we had was to sneak up onto the roof of Old South Barracks and catch some rays. I was delighted when, after commissioning and going our separate ways (he to Inf, I to Armor and ultimately MI, we both were stationed in Bamberg, Germany, in the 3rd Bde, 1st Armd Div. I didn't see him that often because of varying training schedules and deployments, but when I did he was always happy go lucky and carefree. We shall sorely miss his cheerful countenance and warm friendship. He left us way too young, as sadly the good ones tend to do.
