Wayne E. Grant

West Point, 1971

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tony Lentini on January 10, 2023:

I first "met" Wayne Grant in one of our earliest formations during Beast Barracks in July 1967. He was in the row ahead of me, one or two ranks over to the right. We were both in Snake biting Six New Cadet Company but I didn't get to really know him until Yearling year when I was transferred from C-3 to H-3. There, he and Artie Hays and I became best friends; we did everything together the rest of our time at West Point. After graduation, we all went to Amsterdam and Spain together and then I roomed with Wayne at Armor Basic and was stationed near him in the Nuremberg area for over a year starting in 1974. After the Army, we both resided in Louisiana and spent many a great time together there. When he moved to Washington, D.C., my work often took me there and I would stay with him at his home. We visited and traveled together numerous times since then. I was shocked when Artie called me with news of Wayne's stroke last April. I miss him terribly. The three of us used to talk regularly and were planning one of our mini-reunions when Wayne passed. He was a loyal friend, a smart man, a great writer and aa truly honorable person. We differed on politics in recent years but remained fast friends throughout. See you on the other side, my dear friend!
