Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Thomas L. Jones on January 22, 2011:

As Commander of A-3-1, Fort Jackson, SC, (1973) I was priviledged to have J.Kingsley Fink of Fink, Texas, assigned as a "third lieutenant" with our unit. Of course, we understood that he was assigned to Fort Jackson that summer to be close to Coach Dietzel, the ex-Army/recently hired football coach at the nearby University of South Carolina. If I ever met a man that I would call indefatigable, it was J. Kinglsey. I have no idea what path his life took but that summer his intellect, professionalism and sheer force of personality quickly and completely won over the officers and NCOs of Alpha Company. By the end of that summer we were all convinced that, not only was Nebraska was "going down" in Army's opening game that season, they where going to take a beating. That summer, J. Kingsley Fink enriched our unit and our lives.
