Be Thou At Peace
Posted by W Sid Vogel on November 23, 2015:
Shar, Wendy and I are heartbroken, for you and your family as well as for ourselves. Cliff has been our friend for 44 years, and as you know we were there when you two met in Dexheim. Not only did we serve four years together in Company F-3 as cadets, but we served three years in the 12th Engineer Bn. 8th Infantry Division in Germany. What great times we had, and hard duty we shared.
It seems impossible that he has passed, and we grieve with you and your family. I don't have the words to express our thankfulness for knowing Cliff and having him as a friend, and for his determination to finish his missions at the end of his life. We are forever thankful that he took the initiative to build the book for us. JUST 18 GUYS was a thoughtful, and even heroic gift to us all. I hope you can be comforted in knowing that we too will miss him, and we are very saddened that we did not get to see him this year at our 40th Reunion. God Bless you and comfort you, Sid and Wendy Cliff lays today a soldier still I know some don't understand I will try to explain So maybe you can
Cliff served his country For many a year Though he left long ago The soldier was still there
He put on his uniform He wore it to foreign lands The soldier he was Was still in the man
He has been a husband, father, and friend To all of us here But was always a soldier all along Even after so many a year
Duty, Honor, Country was a part of his heart And "Courage and Drive" describes his life
My final salute I render today Cliff was still a soldier And he's just leading the way
