Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Johnson on January 28, 2022:

Words flow as well as tears as I think of this man.

CR was many things, he was a teacher & mentor in my life, best man at my wedding. He a playmate as my brother for 65 years, we were both on student council in HS, on the wrestling team too. He was the leader at Culver Military Summer School, as my company commander of the Naval Midshipmen. We rowed leads in crew, together side by side, as I stroked port he did starboard. We marched together there. Two years later he and his girlfriend Sandy, she would later be his wife of a lifetime (a relationship that lasted over 52 years till his death) He was the one who took me back to Culver before starting a new life at West Point.

He was more than my confidant. He was my best friend, my example in hard times. I think his goals achieved in life with his family, his long lasting friendships. His words of honesty, love, and support. He inspires people around him to do better, to make wise choices. He was forgiving of my mistakes.

My favorite verses in the Bible:
John 14:2 "In my fathers house are many mansions...and I go prepare place for you." Carl pointed out to me, that God is so big that there are enough Galaxies, each of us could have one. I think of that each time I read these verses.

So I believe Carl's there now.
Not because he was good enough, but because Carl believed in Gods grace, his mercy and his love for us.
