Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ron Baez on June 10, 2022:

I was stationed in Korea 81 - 82. when Steve Hoogland came to our unit C co. 1/23rd Inf. 2nd Inf. Div. Camp Hovey, Korea.
Steve Hoogland immediately familiarised himslef with C company. I had the privelege of being his driver so, I spent my daily assignment driving him around. He was a professional Soldier. He Always stayed a few steps ahead of everything and everyone. During one of our conversations he advised me to go back to school, get my degree and return to service as a commissioned Officer. A GREAT LEADER and He always had great advise.
It saddens me to hear of his passing. The World will be a lesser place without him.
He made me a better soldier, young Adult and because of his advise a focussed Father of 3 children. I was looking forward to connecting with him. To see how he was doing. My heart is heavy. When we would hit the gym, he joked about entering the Mr. Universe competition. Another great trait....humor.
SIR! Until I meet you again at tbe debrefing...
RICK STEADY AIRBORNE!!!
HUUUUAAAAHHHH
