Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Les Kayanan on August 12, 2004:

Thank you, Jody, for the heartfelt message you gave us all in your last weeks here on this earthly plane. This is what I heard you say, dear friend:

STAND TALL, FELLOW '77 CLASSMATES, AND REGAIN THE PRIDE AND RESPECT THAT IS RIGHTFULLY OURS. THE BATTLES WAGED WHILE WE WERE CADETS INVOLVED OUR CLASS BECAUSE, AS OUR SUPERINTENDENT, LTG(R) SID BERRY, STRONGLY INFERRED, WE WERE STRONG ENOUGH, WISE ENOUGH, AND HONORABLE ENOUGH TO ENDURE. OVER THE YEARS WE BOWED OUR HEADS BECAUSE WE DID NOT QUITE UNDERSTAND THE "WHY'S OF THE CHEATING SCANDAL AND INCLUSION OF WOMEN INTO THE CORPS DURING OUR WATCH AS THE USMA SENIOR CLASS. NOW WE KNOW, AND NOW WE WILL RECLAIM THE STATURE OF THE HIGHEST HONOR AND RESPECT THAT ANY USMA CLASS MIGHT ACHIEVE.

Jody, I heard you because you cared for each of us a brothers-in-arm, and because you showed us a spirit of love and compassion. You are a man to emulate because despite the pains and sorrows in your life, you stood with us and offered what strength you had to those of us in need. Thank you for your life and all that you dreamed. You were a good friend. You are a good friend. esprit de corps, my friend.
