Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SHAWN FINK on July 12, 2005:

I am very thankful to all those who have left their personal memories of my father in their own special ways. I have read the eulogies that you have left over the last 11 months. Until this point, I have abstained from leaving my own. It is only now that I have had the time to truly, objectively, find the courage to leave a fitting eulogy of my own. Until the very untimely passing of my father, I had never experienced a loss of such magnitude. My father and I spent the first two decades of my life on a very limited basis. Our time together was limited to weekend visits, and Wednesday night dinners. However, I was fortunate to spend 5 years living with him in Fredericksburg before moving to Richmond. Over those five years, I learned more about his life, and was taught more about being a man than I have ever known. Even after moving to Richmond, I had the pleasure of seeing my father regularly. It was always my honor to have him visit here and see the pride in his eyes that I had never been able to invoke in the past. My father was a caring, understanding man that saw me through the darkest years of my life. Being able to please him, and spending time with him and my sister at the same time brought purpose to my very existence. More over, the pride that he had when he saw his grandson, my sister's child, was the happiest I've ever seen him in his life. I am honored, and priveleged to have been related to such a wonderful, strong willed, caring man. My father has touched the lives of many people, and will continue to do so, even though he is gone.
