Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Les Kayanan on August 16, 2021:

Reginald Bernard McFadden was known as the gentle spirited, smooth operator, who validated plebe boxing with a smile that was as genuine as his gentle heart. He always had that combination of calming spirit with a reassuring smile, always known as a friend, compassionate, and, yet, quick to smirk while others frowned or fettered; a reliable foundation of strength and pillar of courage, a sure display of dignity and respect that was always understated and never ruffled. The glint in his eye was always likely to be the brilliance of his keen mind churning ideas, critical thinking, innovative solutions, and the mind and heart of a visionary. Reggie, John Antal, and Les Kayanan traveled to Mexico City to visit Less brother and family, taking a weekend trip to Acapulco to scuba dive, and then let their Tac Officer know they were returning! Reggie was the sure handed and keen eyed marksman on the pistol range, and though he was one of many normal young men among dozens of Star men in Quit-the-Corps-and-Join-E4 crowd, he seldom struggled... at least he never let on that he was not a potential brain surgeon! He was known outside of E-4 as the same kind, gentle person he was inside E-4. Consistent, modest, kind, and quiet. A true and loyal friend to everyone who knew him at West Point. You are missed, Reggie, and though you left us too soon, keep a place warm for us as we join you someday. We know you're already putting in a good word for us!
