Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dennis R Young on January 10, 2021:

I hope I am the 1st to post a(n) eulogy of Danilo Lim. I think of him as my best friend from my days at West Point. He suffered through a brutal Plebe year at the Philippine Military Academy and then qualified to suffer through another Plebe year at the UMSA as an exchange student.
He was my 1st roommate (with Pat Pedden) in C-1 following Beast Barracks. He was 5' 4" and 120 lbs. His shoes were so tiny the smooth front of their tops extended all the way to the shoelaces so his shoes didn't have the wrinkles that our shoes normally had between the tip and the the laces. They were perfect for inspections and the envy of all Plebes who saw them.
The upperclassmen decreed that his personal "Poop" would be "Yeehaw!!!".
Once he was standing in the front row of our Company's formation. As I walked by I gave him a sideways punch in the gut (I thought discreetly although it was broad daylight). By the time I got to my place in formation upperclassmen were all over me in mock indignation. They called Danilo over and asked him if I punched him. He replied yes of course ( to deny it was an honor violation). They then asked him what he was going to do about. He let me have it with a punch in the gut ( with a war cry for effect) as I stood at attention.
Recently I looked online for information on him and found out he had made it to Brig. General in the Philippines, took part in TWO attempts to overthrow the government, spent 4 years in prison, and ran for political office. Check out his Wikipedia article. Well done Danilo!
