Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kathleen Silvia on April 8, 2024:

Shelley embodied the essence of PRIDE AND EXCELLENCE of USMA 1980 in many ways - professionally, at home and in her "public servant" lifelong endeavors. Her life was shortened by events she encountered/experienced; and taken from us too soon.

"Some gave all; all gave some." We shall miss you; and see you again... / posting a drafted obituary here:

Shelley A. Richardson, US Army Veteran, passed away on March 24, 2024 at the age of 65 after an accomplished life. Shelley is survived by her husband, Paul Richardson, a daughter, Jamie Parker, and a son, Jon Richardson. She has two beloved brothers - Robert and Cary Ashworth - and three grandchildren she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Ashworth, and father, Robert Ashworth.

Shelley had a celebrated career in the military. She served for over 30 years in the US Army after graduating in the first class to accept women at the US Military Academy at West Point, NY. She played a pivotal role in establishing the Army Logistics University (ALU) at Fort Gregg-Adams Army Post (formerly Fort Lee) in Virginia.. She earned a Master's in Strategic Studies from the Marine Corps War College and a Master's in Industrial Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

After retiring with the rank of Colonel, Shelley continued serving as a Department of the Army civilian responsible for developing budgets and security strategies for US Army installations worldwide. Her pastimes after working were to create art projects, share time with and around family and to always support them. Shear happiness of her family was paramount in all Shelley did.

Her cremated remains will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors (date TBD). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on Shelley's behalf to the US Army Foundation online at AWFDN.ORG or to the West Point WomenA-A?A1/2s Association at
