Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SGT Rene A Rios on May 20, 2009:

I was fortunate enough to have met COL Allgood while I was at Fort Bragg in the mid nineties. He was CO of the 274th FST. I was assigned to the 2nd ACR FST and so we worked with each other on many occasions. What I remember most about COL Allgood was his command prescence. To me, a young and green combat medic, he seemed like he was 7 feet tall. And yet, he was so approachable. I enjoyed each and every interaction I had with him because I had a sense that he valued anything a soldier had to contribute regardless of rank or status. He was like no other Commanding Officer I have ever met since. I've known of his passing for quite some time and when I found out I felt an overwhelming sense of loss and sadness and have thought of him on random occasions since. I know that his family will continue to find comfort in knowing that he touched many lives during his time here and that he was an absolutely positive role model for so many young men and women throughout his military career. I truly wish I had known him better. May he rest in peace.
