Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Fred Shambach on January 25, 2007:

Dear Jane and Wyatt,

First my heart sank, then went out to you both in Germany yesterday when I read of Brian's untimely death. I did not know him anywhere near as well as I knew you, Jane. After all, spending 4 years in old A-2 together made for much closer ties. Wyatt, I don't believe we have met yet. I hope to correct tht someday soon, maybe as soon as your Mom's 25th Class Reunion this fall?

The suddenness and unexpectedness of Brian's loss immediately echoed my feelings when I heard we lost Brent Washburn in an accident over Christmas leave in 1981 and my brother Eric to a heart attack just before getting together at Christmas in 1995. These sudden losses are hardest because we didn't have a chance to really say a final "good-bye." It is times like these (with unfinished business) that I can only find lasting comfort in my faith. I hope you can find some peace and comfort in your faith and belief that you will see Brian (and Brent) again, in the next life, when we all join them in eternity.

I want to offer both of you my heartfelt prayers, emotional and any more tangible support I can at this time of your personal grief. If there is anything I can do to help you, please do not hesitate to call on me, day or night - (901) 861-4544 at home and (901) 419-3924 at work here in Memphis, TN. I promise to do whatever I can to support you.

Your Company Mate, Friend, and Brother in Christ,

Fred Shambach
