Be Thou At Peace

Posted by CPT Jaime Gonzalez, PT on January 26, 2007:

Dear Allgood Family,

My sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to all of you for this tragic loss. My prayers are with you. I am the commander of a medical recruiting company whose area includes all of Oklahoma including, of course, Dr. Allgood's alma mater, OU. I first learned about the loss of one of our school's alumni on Monday and minutes later realized that, tragically, it was Dr. Allgood. I first met Dr. Allgood when I was a SSG working in the physical therapy clinic at Womack at Ft. Bragg. I was always bugging the ortho docs trying to learn all that I could as I was preparing to apply to the Army-Baylor Physical Therapy Graduate Program. Dr. Allgood was always approachable, amiable, encouraging, and kind to me, in spite of my many, many inquiries and questions. He did not hesitate to answer in the affirmative when I solicited from him a letter of recommendation for the aforementioned program.

Probably my favorite memory is from the 1999 Ft. Bragg 55-Mile Perimeter Challenge adventure race. As my team and I rested at a water stop, Dr. Allgood and his team flew by and continued their "smoking" of us and many other teams. As they ran by, he waved, smiled, and winked as if to give a friendly "Yep, we're definitely kicking all of your butts in this race." They, of course, did just that.

I was commissioned, attended OBC, and began the Army-Baylor PT program at Ft. Sam Houston in 2000 when Dr. Allgood was the commander of the then 91W training battalion, the 232nd. I forget where I ran into him on Ft. Sam Houston but he was genuinely happy to hear that I had accomplished my goal. I appreciated that and always will.

Though I certainly did not know Dr. Allgood very well, it is clear from my limited interactions with him and by the comments of so many, that he was one of our best soldiers, officers, physicians, Americans, and a family man. Again, my sincerest condolences to you.

With the family's permission, we plan on having a representative from the San Antonio Medical Recruiting Company, 5th Medical Recruiting Battalion present during the service in Colorado.

God bless the soul of Dr. Allgood and may you find comfort in the many memories of all of the good that Dr. Allgood accomplished in his short life.
