I was priveleged to serve with COL Allgood at the 18th MEDCOM and again here in Iraq. He was the best leader I have worked for in my 16 years for a variety of reasons. Warrior, athlete, teammate, surgeon, father, husband, and friend were just a few of the roles he deftly filled. You would not learn his background from him though, because he wasn't one to talk about himself. Instead he would listen more than talk, mentoring simultaneously. COL Allgood clearly was one of the best in the AMEDD/DOD and would have gone as high as he and his family wanted him to. Jane and Wyatt, Please take solace in knowing that your husband and father touched and improved the character and health care of thousands of military and civilian, US and ally throughout the world. It was a honor working for him. If I am ever in doubt which road to take I will think what he would have done and act accordingly. |
