Be Thou At Peace

Posted by MAJ Michael E. Perry on January 27, 2007:

Earlier this week, I realized that despite my best intentions, there are many things I have taken for granted. I fully expect to complete everything I begin. I fully expect to wake each day, accomplish a hard day's work, and return home safely to an awaiting family. I fully expect that each minute will seamlessly flow into the next...I fully expected to see Brian Allgood again.

I feel honored and blessed that God's plan placed COL Allgood in my life for a short while. From the day I assumed command of B Company of the 232nd Medical Battalion, until the day he departed, I witnessed the work of a man who truly "got it." Mission, family, spirit--they are all important and he really understood that. It seemed to me that he never missed a beat--always there, always thinking, always caring. There is so much that I could write, but nothing can fully express the loss that we have all suffered. So perhaps we can focus on what we have gained.

We have had an opportunity to know a man who was a life changer. Through his mere presence and his deeds, his influence on those around him has been undeniable. I believe it is inherent on everyone he has touched to "finish the job" that he is now unable to complete on this Earth. In that way, his influence will live and grow for decades to come... he will never truly be lost.

I pray that COL Allgood's soul is at peace, and I pray that the Lord brings comfort to his family.

Farewell, Sir...
