Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SGM Mark A. Cornejo on February 2, 2007:

A Fallen Great Warrior

I had the distinct honor and privilege to serve under the command of COL Brian Allgood. At that time, LTC Brian Allgood, Commander, 232d Medical Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, TX, ?Home of the Combat Medic.?

As a senior Non-Commissioned Officer, I am fortunate to meet and work for many outstanding Officers and Leaders. I can honestly tell you with all my heart and military mind that COL Allgood was indeed the best of the best. I witnessed a whole new command climate environment that embodied the ?Warrior Spirit? mentality to our entire organization upon his arrival to the unit. Because of his direction and guidance, we were able to teach, train and push great Combat Medics to a whole new level. Many of them, saving lives today, in this theater and around the world. COL Allgood?s true professionalism, dedication, candor, and leadership made it the most rewarding assignment of my military career. He always brought the best out of Soldiers. I know that I am a much better NCO because of COL Allgood.

It was such a breath of fresh air for me to run across him once again during this deployment. I will treasure not only his memory but our last few conversations we had prior to the tragedy. A great Leader, Soldier and Warrior, fallen but never forgotten.

To COL (R) Jane Allgood and Wyatt, Thanks so much for sharing COL Allgood with us. He has touched so many lives and will deeply be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
