Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Richard Walters on June 24, 2003:

I remember the first time I saw Rocky... he wanted to become the newest Officer Advanced Course Team Leader. I remember thinking that his uniform wasn't pressed and his boots weren't spit-shined, and what kind of example would that be?

Rocky was the BEST OAC Team Leader. I'm not saying that because it's his personal eulogy now being written. I've said it before. He was professional, friendly, helpful, dedicated. He was a good teacher and he cared about teaching. He cared about everything he did. I was Team Leader with him the first time he had his own Team. He was supposed to learn from me. I learned from him. He KNEW maintenance. I did, too. Thought I knew it better than anyone else there... but not like Rocky.

He was an example to me. He was a friend. I'll always remember the sailboat trips on Lake Guntersville and the golf outings with fellow Team Leaders and yes, the detailed discussions on Maintenance Management.

It was late last night when my phone rang with the news from a student who admired Rocky and was reading the Army Times. A terrible sense of loss hit me...

Rocky, God Bless you and your family. I look forward to the day when we meet again in heaven.

your friend,
rich
