Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Lorne Smith on March 6, 2009:

I served with LTC Baragona in Korea at the JTF as his personal courrier and coffee maker. That may sound trite, but he saved my career. I had suffered a mental breakdown and was unable to perform my normal duties, and was in danger of being court martialed for my trouble. He allowed me to be reassigned to him in a low stress environment so that I could recover my faculties. I can't imagine many other high ranking officers being willing to do that, or having a care for someone in my situation. Despite the huge rank gap, he treated me with respect and concern for my mental health. After serving with him, I was able to return to full duty stateside. I didn't know much of the man behind the rank, but I knew plenty about the amazing officer he was. I've never forgotten. Thank you sir, for saving me.
