I was fortunate enough to live directly across the street from Steve and Pam while we were all stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado (1983-85). Steve and I also served together in 1/27 FA during most of the time we were neighbors. Steve was a great officer and always fun to be around - especially during deployments with the National Guard or while on Reforger. The four of us (Pam, Steve, myself, my wife Beth) frequently enjoyed a cheap dinner in Colorado Springs and would go out and rent a VCR and movie and watch it at one of our quarters. Those were some great times. My last memory of Steve (who knew it at the time) was this past Sept, 2006 where I enjoyed dinner at the Berstler's beautiful home in Morristown and a few rounds of pool on their new pool table. We had hoped to get both families together again soon... Beth and I send our deepest condolences to Pam, the kids, and the entire Berstler family. |
