Tobin L. Green

West Point, 1984

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Connor Green on December 23, 2020:

Tobin "Toby" Leonard Green was born 4 January 1962 to David and Renata Green in Sioux Falls, SD. He was closely followed by his twin brother, Tony, who often cited a traumatic view that scarred him for life.

Toby and Tony welcomed another brother, Tommy, in 1963. The Green boys went on to attend St. Therese, St. Marys, and OGorman High School. In the years between, they broke (and glued together) multiple pieces of furniture and incurred multiple injuries wrestling one another. In high school, Toby was class president and the pitcher on the fast pitch softball team that took 2nd at State. Upon graduation from OGorman, he met the love of his life, Susan, and attended West Point. He served as an Army Officer for 28 years, retiring as a Colonel in 2013. While in the military, Toby deployed four times and completed programs at Johns Hopkins and Harvard. Upon retiring from the military, he worked as a contractor overseas where he helped the Emirati Army develop their national training program.

Above all else, Toby lived his life in service to others. In high school, he gave his best winter jacket to a homeless man. At West Point, he gave his free time to help friends study, even for classes he didnt take. In the Army, he gave his very best to his Soldiers, working himself to the bone. He lived frugally to provide for his family and in his final two years of life, he gave every ounce of his energy to raising his grandchildren.

Toby relied heavily on his faith to help him through times of struggle and endeavored to live his life honoring the teachings of the Catholic Church. He passed away on 27 October 2020 in Rochester, MN. He is survived by his wife, Susan Green; his children, Courteney and Connor; his grandchildren, Kiran and Kairi; his brother, Tom; and his mother, Renata. In death he joins his gregarious twin, Tony, and his beloved father, Dave.
