Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Karson Snyder on October 20, 2020:

As are most deaths, this was a bit unexpected. Wow! I just traded messages with him not too long ago and I was looking at the birthday greeting I exchanged with him in 2019 just now.

Mike was a great guy and we had some parallel paths. Both of us were at IBM (and both working out of Atlanta for a while), and both of us were Army attache's in the Reserves. Mike was Mr. SE Asia and had some interesting stories about how being in the right place at the right time leads to unusual opportunities (like his attendance at Thai CGSC). He spent a lot of time in his Field Grade years helping out various attache shops in SE Asia, including in Jakarta and Bangkok, if I remember correctly. And with his emphasis on being the guy at IBM who helps small businesses, he and I talked about doing some sort of business venture together some day. In fact, I was thinking it's time to call him and see if he is still interested. Too bad - I know I could use him and I think he would have had fun doing it.

Back in the 2000's we would have a beer and talk about IBM, or DIA, or SE Asia, or the Middle East, or being in USAREUR at such a cool time. I was looking forward to catching up again and see what has gone on in the last 10 years. I guess that is now an appointment that is out of my hands.

So, to the aviator who reported to work in civvies and became one of the last Huey pilots we have, and then flew for a Thai company in what must have been a cool time, may the winds be favorable and the skies clear where you are going. Be thou at Peace as we grip hands from the shadows. See you around, Mike!
