Matt was my A-3 company commander my senior year. I wasn't what you would call a stellar Pointer (my TAC told me that I should never be allowed to graduate...and boy did I prove him...right). But, I remember that Matt had a picture of he and his brother(?) that was taken "back home" where one was standing in the distance, seemingly perched in the other's hand. After I heard of Matt's untimely passing, I immediately remembered that photo and the many times that Matt bent the rules for me, not because he had to, but because that was who he was. To this day, I am saddened at his loss, not just for his family, but for those whom he would have helped. |
