Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Eva Buhidar on November 14, 2004:

To the Family and Friends of Doug Gurian,

I had the wonderful opportunity of sharing my first duty assignment in the Army with Doug Gurian. I had transferred from an air defense artillery (HAWK) battery in Bad Kissingen, Germany to the Fire Direction Center (FDC) in Wildflecken during my last year in Europe. During that year at the FDC, I worked with Doug and came to know him as a compassionate, caring, and light-hearted young man who never let anything get him down. He was such a joy to be around because he was very sure of himself and he used his sense of humor to alleviate the woes of those around him. Those were not easy times in air defense, but Doug would not have known it.

I was very sad to hear of his fate on that tragic day in America. But, as long as there are people like Doug who grace the earth with their brief presence, America will continue to be the hearth of freedom. I will never forget Doug.

Very Respectfully,

Eva Buhidar
