Sid (as we all called him) was a well-liked lieutenant in 4th Battalion, 8th Infantry (Mechanized) in Mannheim, Germany. Not only was he a good leader, he was also a very smart, funny guy. He was only with us a few months, but made his mark right away. He earned great respect from everyone. I was there in the battalion headquarters when we learned of Sid's unfortunate passing in a motorcycle accident. Sid was fearless. I think he would have made an excellent senior officer in later years. His passing left a huge void in our battalion, and in the US Army. RIP, Sid. |
