Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Eric Moore on June 30, 2014:

Being in the next company over (E-2), you couldn't not be drawn to Mark's leadership. He had this calm demeanor that was just placid......placid.....placid and then would ERUPT with infectious enthusiasm. He always seemed older than the rest of the people in our class and would look at things with calmness and acceptance. I looked at him as a natural leader and my nickname for him was "Bhagwan". When I first learned of his passing, I went to google and it means "prosperous, holy" and those words strike me as being my relationship with Mark. I am much more fortunate for having him in my life and his calmness of manner I have taken with me in my journey through life.

As we age and get removed from West Point we sometimes don't stay as close as me meant to or wanted to with people who meant a lot to us. I haven't been in contact with Mark in years, but he still left such an impression on my life that I wanted to reach out and leave a message.

I do know this. The world will be a little sadder and not as much fun a place as it was with Mark in it.
