Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Frank Decarvalho on December 7, 2018:

I met Jim the day I arrived in Iraq in 2007 to assume the role as 3rd ID G7. Jim was serving in this role for 45 days and had done a fantastic job running the information campaign for the Task Force. He was my cubicle partner for roughly 8 months and I got to know him well. We shared coffee daily and compared our many concoctions using whatever grinds we could find. He turned me onto the French Press as it made the best brew. He was always calm, positive, insightful, and a pleasure to work with in every regard. Two years later, he encouraged me to follow in his footsteps in attending the Naval War College as he said it was a great experience; he was absolutely correct. I knew Jim to be a man of great wisdom and knowledge and an officer who always measured his words before speaking. I admired him for his willingness to help others, even if it meant getting less sleep or PT, what a standup guy. I will remember him fondly for his humorous Infantry stories that hurt my sides and his friendly demeanor, even in the most stressful of conditions. Rest in peace Ranger Jim, you ran a wonderful race.
