Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jeff Plante on May 25, 2020:

I was surprised to not see a eulogy for Jim on the site in reviewing on Memorial Day. While I did not know Jim as well as others, my interactions were enough to recall fondly a wonderful spirit of joy of life and presence. At the officers basic course, from his location on the other side of the room we would engage in frivolity at the supposed expense of the instructors with commentary, words etc though we were in different social circles.

A few years later, at the NTC I was an augmented observer controller, going through the rotation, Jim rolled up in his APC, pulled off his helmet, hailed me and started recalling some of the times from OBC...laughing the whole time in the short break from the action.

When I saw his name in the West Point Magazine...I was taken aback...how could someone so filled with life and joy be taken so early? Looking at the picture now in our 1987 Yearbook, and that day in the sand is how I will remember Jim...full of joy and life...spreading his happiness to those he encountered. What a great person!

You are surely and sorely missed. Rest in Peace, Jim.
