Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Shawn Buck on February 14, 2001:

There are so many wonderful things to say about Rob Olson. He was one of the best officers I've ever known. The kind of guy that when he was promoted below the zone, you felt the Army got it right--he deserved it. We commanded together in Hawaii. We golfed together (the man wouldn't use any woods...always an iron off the tee!). In Hawaii, Holly delivered my first child by c-section. She is an amazing woman, talented doctor and outstanding officer--to whom I am eternally grateful. Rob and I hooked back up at West Point. I was teaching and he was a TAC. He was an amazing TAC. The students I taught who knew him literally hung on every word he said. He had there undivided attention and absolute respect at all times.

I want to say so much more, but just don't know where to start. My heart is very heavy. Rob was an incredible soldier and leader--candid, honest, caring and competent. He loved and cared for his family and it was clear what a great husband and father he was. He was also a good friend. The world and the Army are better because of Rob Olson. We will miss him, but never forget him. His legacy lives on; in the hearts and minds of Holly and the kids, in the professionalism and competence of the officers, cadets and soldiers that were fortunate enough to work with him, and in the laughter of his many friends. God Bless you Rob--thanks for everything.
