Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jay Patton on February 19, 2001:

I first remember meeting Rob during Camp Buckner when we were in the same platoon - he stood out - the accent, the distinctive way he creased his hat, his irrevence, his fun-loving attitude, and his get-down-to-business attitude when times demanded it.

When we returned as yearlings, Rob was nearby in E-2 while I was in I-2 so I got to see a lot of him and the other fellas in his company. He was always outgoing and fun and willing to reach out to others. How many times did I hear or say "Rob-O" during those years? I don't know, but it was always said with warmth.

I never served with Rob as an Army officer, saw him as a husband, or watched him as a father but I can only imagine that he performed wonderfully in each role based on the qualities I saw in the brief time at the Academy years ago - the ability to have fun while still maintaining the serious edge to do the right thing when the time came.

To Holly I wish you the best in this extremely difficult time. My thoughts are with you and the children. I also remember you fondly and know that despite this awesome loss you will move forward.

We will all miss Rob.
