Be Thou At Peace

Posted by CDT Dustin Greenhill on February 20, 2001:

I feel as if I may be walking on thin ice posting a "personal eulogy" on this website. I didn't personally know MAJ Olson, but I feel that this is the least I can do. After all, as a cadet that could've easily gained the apparent privelege to have this gifted and talented leader as a tactical officer, I feel an obligation to relay what I have heard about this officer from West Point. This posting is mainly directed towards the friends and family with whom everyones prayers are with, and to hopefully provide any comfort to get through the times.

MAJ Olson was given a moment of silence during a meal in the mess hall. It is during these moments of silence where cadets and officers alike share the dim realization of the possibility of such accidents occuring, as well as (if I have the liberty to say yet) the realization that the long grey line contains that individual. I'm sure, however, that as a TAC and as an officer MAJ Olson was a great man, and that's what it usually comes down to, no matter what you wear or how many accomplishments are pinned to you chest, rest assured that MAJ Olson probably touched more people during his career than many could dream to touch.

While I didn't personally know MAJ Olson, once again, this posting does not exactly require that. It was meant to provide support for the family and friends of MAJ Olson, and relay that if all the minds were brought together to thank MAJ Olson for reaching them on an individual basis, there's probably be a very vast and thankful arena filled.
