Be Thou At Peace

Posted by 2LT Elizabeth Young on February 21, 2001:

MAJ O was my cow year TAC. I had the opportunity to serve as his First Sergeant. Looking back, I now realize that semester was fundamental in shaping me as a leader. I grew more than I knew possible during that semester, and learned that in order to be effective I had to above all be myself and be able to relate to those around me. MAJ O taught me that, and many other lessons, both through his personal example and through the time he took to mentor me. Some of my best memories from school are of J and I sitting and talking things through with MAJ O. I can still hear his voice. I know that I, and countless other cadets, would not be who we are today had we not known MAJ O.

During the time MAJ O was my TAC, I knew he was a special officer. Only now though, as I continue to meet more people and learn more about life, do I realize just how amazing a leader he was and just how fortunate I am to have known him. You don't meet people like him every day. MAJ O lived every day of his life to the fullest, and touched all he came in contact with. I hope that I can honor him by trying to do the same.
