Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Karen Hurd Ward on March 25, 1999:

Ingrid and I were "Black Lions" from 1987 to 1990; I didn't know her well during our cadet years, but got to know her well in the 249th Engineer Battalion. Ingrid loved people and animals. Ingrid was always there to do me a favor...I preceded Ingrid to Germany because she had a later OBC class. She shared an apartment with me until she found her own apartment. She reciprocated the favor by cooking for me...she taught me how to make lasagna without boiling the noodles (Ingrid loved to cook); she cared for my cat and dog when I would travel to CONUS for leave. Ingrid was such a free spirit; nothing could get between Ingrid and happiness. Her soldiers and fellow officers loved her.
I took her to the Frankfurt airport when she ETS'd from the Army; it's the last time I gave her a friendly hug; she gave my daughter a teddy bear and wished me luck in the Army.
After Fort Carson (1993) I didn't do such a good job of keeping in touch, and now I am sorry for that. Life was just too busy. My heart goes out to your mom and dad; I know you were an only child. I will miss you.
