Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Debbie Brown on May 16, 2009:

John, it's been a long time. Many seasons since you, Trudy and I were stationed in Baumholder. Before I took off for the sweet, cushy staff life in Wiesbaden.

In summer 2006 I coincidentally ran into Trudy in the Salt Lake airport, and she told me we'd lost you. I was shocked and saddened. My Dad was ill and passed away a few months later so I wasn't much support to Trudy at that time, I'm afraid.

I have to tell you that I always saw you as a soldier's soldier - a fine man and a wonderful role model. Not to mention a vigorous soul with a knack for making people smile. I saw you and Trudy as the most glamorous, loving couple. Your loss is felt keenly.

Last month I saw Trudy in her new home in Maryland. She is doing well, as I know you'd want. You were never far from our thoughts and conversation, however.

Rest in peace, dear friend. Know that you are greatly missed.
