Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Nick Panagakos on February 16, 2006:
It was truly a sad day when I heard the news of John's passing. We served togehter in Korea in 1/503 Infantry, when he was Alpha Company Commander and I was the S1. I will always remember John's upbeat personality and his great smile, even when he was telling me that I somehow had screwed up the awards he had submitted for his men. One story I remember that John told me was when he was attached to an ROK Infantry Divison during a joint exercise. John was the only American officer assigned to this unit and the ROK general took an immediate liking to him. When ever the general came into the TOC to be briefed, he would scream LEWIS at the top of his lungs and wanted John to sit next to him. This of course pissed off the other ROK officers who out ranked John, but what could they do.
John, you were a great officer and infantryman and a true gentleman. I will miss you my friend.
