Be Thou At Peace

Posted by MAJ Steve Garcia on July 8, 2008:

I had the honor of working with LTC Walton, if only for a brief while in Afghanistan. As part of Embedded Training Team, nicknamed the "Wolfpack", the rest of my team and I eagerly awaited our replacements, and the first we met was LTC Walton, who conducted a quick recon trip to Kabul to meet with us before bringing his own team out a few months later. Within the first hour of meeting LTC Walton, we felt like he was a part of the team and had always been one. His sense of humour was infectious. He just oozed credibility; you knew immediately he knew what he was talking about, and every junior officer on the team walked away from meeting him remarking that he was what they wanted in a leader. It saddens me that no more Soldiers will get the benefit of his leadership. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
