Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Matt Johnson on November 11, 2006:
To the Barattieri family, My deepest sympathies to your entire family and friends. His life and efforts though continue to provide a positive legacy- a testiment to his character. I only met him once in March in 2003 at a school house in Najaf, Iraq. He was escorting a friend of mine from my hometown for a short visit in the middle of the war. He took the effort to look in on a total stranger, me, to make sure I was alright. I only knew him as Bear then- he had longer hair than the rest of us. My hometown friend who had remained friends and a co-worker of Bears' was truly impacted by his loss. He said "Bear was most courageous and skilled warrior/leader I have ever had the privilege to work for. He was also my best friend and mentor. Words escape me in trying to describe to you how much he meant to me." He told me that and I am not sure that he ever had a chance to tell you. I wanted to share that with you. God Bless and thank you! Matt Johnson '97
