Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Brian West on November 17, 2006:

I wasn't blessed to get to know "Bear" really well, but here's a story that shouldn't be lost.

One evening during Desert Phase of Ranger School, a Ranger Instructor suddenly loomed up over Guy (we were all on a knee at a halt) and barked, "Ranger, how the hell do you pronounce your name?"

Totally unruffled, he grinned up at the RI and said, "Sergeant, it is pronounced bah-rah-tee-AIRRRR-ee," perfectly trilling the "R".

The RI just said, "Uh, OK, Ranger, drive on," and walked away.

I've run into a couple other members of '92 and we all miss him.

God bless him and his family,
Brian
