Stephen C. Reich

West Point, 1993

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Robert Barnsby on July 3, 2005:

MAJ Reich was known to all who entered the Academy from Connecticut in the 1990s. He was an absolute legend in his hometown and at West Point... I remember those of us who entered in 1992 were able to meet him once at a picnic prior to R-Day -- he absolutely lived up to the billing while being extremely kind and gracious at the same time. Everyone just knew that, if you could live up to half of what Steve Reich did, and who he was, you would certainly do well indeed. I can't say he'd have known me personally but I knew his name so well that I was devastated to hear the news even now, 13 years after the one and only time I shook his hand. My brother, who did not attend West Point, had even heard the news and remembered the name without my prompting. Again - everyone knew Steve Reich.
The Army Baseball community, the Special Ops Community, all of CT and the nation have lost a great man and a great leader. He will truly be missed. My deepest and most sincere condolences to Jill and the entire Reich family.
