Be Thou At Peace

Major Jason Everett George
HHC (-) 1/252nd Combined Arms Battalion
30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team
1st Cavalry Division

Major Jason E. George (38), graduate of the U.S. Military Academy (1994), was an Army Reservist assigned to the 1-252nd Combined Arms Battalion out of Fayetteville, North Carolina. A dedicated Soldier; he answered the call to arms from the Individual Ready Reserve and energetically did his part in preparing the unit for combat in Iraq. MAJ George was responsible for the promulgation of business in the 1-252nd CAB's operational environment (OE). He intended to apply his skills as an MBA graduate of the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business to help revitalize the local Iraqi economy, while his brothers in arms continued to target the networks terrorizing the Iraqi people and Coalition Forces (CF).

Jason was an undefeated boxer at West Point. After graduating, he served eight years in the US Army. He was assigned to various posts around the country including: Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Hood, Texas and Savannah, Ga. He was also deployed to Bosnia and Kosovo. George left the service in 2002 and earned an MBA at the University of Michigan. Before being called up, George was working for a consulting firm in Chicago. He specialized in health care helping hospitals and clinics save money by becoming more efficient.

His resume was thicker than one of his beloved Double-Doubles at In-N-Out. It was deeper than the Dodgers, his favorite baseball team - a team he was able to watch with his parents in early April 2009 when they played the Angels. Growing up, Jason did what a lot of us only dreamed about - he won the Pinewood Derby. In high school, he had an internship with NASA at Edwards Air Force Base. Jason played tennis, baseball, soccer and basketball. As a senior at Tehachapi High, No. 22 kicked the winning field goal in the finals of the Desert Inyo League Championships. Jason was an Eagle Scout, and after a year at Cal State Bakersfield, he was appointed to West Point.

On the morning of 21 May 2009 (10:35 am), MAJ George and other business-minded military professionals held a meeting in southern Baghdad with the leadership of the Doura Market Businessmen's Association to discuss continued revitalization of the local business community and economy. MAJ George and fellow Soldiers were suddenly attacked by a terrorist wearing a person-borne improvised explosive device (PBIED)/suicide vest. MAJ George was one of three U.S. Soldiers killed, in addition to others seriously injured, including innocent local Iraqi citizens.

MAJ George was laid to rest at Bakersfield National Cemetery in California. He is survived by his parents and grandparents and his Thunderbolt family. MAJ George must trust those he left behind to honk twice when they find their way home and once in a while say Annnnnnnnnnd Roger!
