Be Thou At Peace

Today at work at Northern Garrett High School my JROTC Senior Army Instructor talked about West Point and how 9/11 affected them. One of my cadets C/LTC Kambria Kyle wants to go there to become a commission officer once she completes high school. As MAJ Hershfeldt talked about West Point my mind took me back to a dusty aid station in Eastern Afghanistan. There at Super FOB on the ground 3 of my team mates were lying dead on the ground with their eyes half way open. I still remember LTC Jaimie Leonard looking in my direction as she lies against the wall with her shirt open and blood in her chest. The event change me and I promise to myself to honor them by living a life that honored them. LTC Leonard and LTC Clark were outstanding officers that were willing to share risks and dangers with enlisted man like myself. Never forget the day I meet her and how confident and courageous in her demeanor she was. I found out later on after she die that she graduate from West Point Military Academy and that answer many of my questions. Hopefully, this summer I muster the courage to visit West Point and put flowers on LTC Leonard grave and tell her that we would never forget her.
