Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Joe Holland on September 19, 2012:

True irony it is that I remembered Paul on the anniversary of his passing and went to look for an appropriate place to memorialize him.

Paul was an unassuming leader of sheer determination. He and I worked for general officers at the same time in 2008-09 at Campbell Barracks in Heidelberg, Germany. We spent more than a few hours together discussing the future of our Army, the progress of the fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, and our families.

He and his family lived in an adjacent building in Mark Twain Village. When he wasn't at work, Paul was often seen playing with his daughter or working around the house. Always upbeat, but with a convincing and determined look, Paul could handle just about any challenge handed to him from child rearing to taking care of the boss.

He was elated to be assigned to 2nd Cavalry, and we all knew he would do well for the squadron and the regiment.

Our Nation and Army lost a great young officer, and his family lost a wonderful father, husband, and son on 18 Sept 2010.

Rest in Peace, Paul. You will never be forgotten!
