Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Rachel Garaas on January 5, 2005:

I would like to thank you all for sharing your stories and memories of Nathan. He certainly was unique and walked to the beat of a different drummer. One of my favorite stories of him is when his friend Andy from West Point visited Fargo and the duo set up "camp" in the middle of Fargo's shopping mall. Wearing brown button-up shirts and large aviator sunglasses, they tried to sell "Ricky Martin Salsa" (Their motto: Ricky Martin's hot, and so is his salsa.) to the unsuspecting Fargoan people who thought this setup was legit. They videotaped people tasting their salsa, which was simply regular jars of salsa with pictures of Ricky Martin taped to them. Security eventually kicked them out, but Andy and Nate had a grand time watching the video over, and over, and over, and over again. Of course, each viewing being funnier than the previous. What an absolute weirdo!

Another memory is how his fifth grade teacher built a six-foot tall box around his desk so he could not "influence" his classmates. Even at a young age he was causing trouble. I would not be surprised if God has him sequestered up in heaven, too. Never a dull moment when Nate's around.
