Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Drew Sherrill on September 24, 2007:

Corry was my roommate for a semester during our cow (junior) year in H2. We were both Civil Engineering Majors and attended many of the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) functions together at West Point.

Read the eulogy from LTC Richard Shelton who spoke of the times we spent deer hunting together. Corry and I would grab two or three plebes (freshmen) who were not busy on the weekend and ask them to help us drive the deer from one location to another. We would chase the deer out of the illegal hunting areas and shoot at them along the river below the cemetery and old PX. We were in awe of Corry killing a deer on the run with a bow and he was so excited!

Another fond memory was when Cory, MAJ Richard Shelton, and I went Turkey hunting. Unbelievably, we all killed a turkey which is extremely uncommon on a single hunt.

Cory was also a brilliant individual. Intellectually it was tough to challenge Corry. He was always more than willing to help people in any way necessary. He was very quiet and reserved and took the most stressful situations in stride.

The final thing I would like people to know about Corry was that he was a man of God. Corry had a quiet but effective presence to those around him and you could often find him reading the Bible before Taps at night. Through my faith I know that Corry is looking down over all of us right now. So I find myself saying farewell to a friend long before his time, God Bless you Corry and Be Thou at Peace.
