Benjamin Tiffner

West Point, 2000

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ryan Gould on November 11, 2007:

My wife and I had the opportunity to raft the Gauley River with Ben and his good friends Vince Kaster and Joe two years ago when they were all finishing up language school.

When I heard the news and told my wife about Ben's death I described him as the quiet one. I also went on to say that is how I always new Ben at West Point. I never thought of Ben as an infantry want to be until I noticed him on branch night in the same room. He wasn't the typical beating his chest infantry man.

He proved his competence and leadership ability many times over in his career not through words but through actions. He moved through the challenges faced by an infantry officer and on to become a Special Forces officer. I told my wife that if I had the opportunity to serve, I would have hoped to have been like Ben, a quiet professional who reached the goals that he set out to achieve.

I wish that I would have had the opportunity to know Ben better. My thoughts are with the Tiffner family.
