Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Douglas Graham on October 21, 2003:

One word describes Dave: warrior. All the qualities used to illustrate this most noble of callings describe Dave exactly ? great strength of mind, body, and spirit, impeccable honor, dedication to duty, thirst for knowledge, humility, compassion, and the absolute defense of his ideals and of his brothers. Dave was the very best our country had to offer, and he lost his life defending that country and his brother soldiers.

As with Jason, I first knew Dave from his leadership during the train-up for CDQC, and it was immediately apparent this was a man who could be relied on. There was never a sense of ?this fellow will probably be a good platoon leader, eventually? ? all who knew him trusted his prodigious talent, his confidence, and his word without question. His peers, subordinates, and no doubt his leaders looked to him for inspiration, and in his humble, gracious way he always provided it.

To Dave?s family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. He is with God, in the place for Heroes. The service he provided this nation and therefore the noblest ideals of humanity are immeasurable. He will continue to be an inspiration for all who knew him, and will never be forgotten.

Be thou at peace, Dave. Your duty is done.

Douglas M. Graham, USMA ?01
