Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Mike Harnisch on October 28, 2003:

Dave and I met through the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization in Austin, TX. I still remember David as a shy 8th grader, quiet and temid. We became fast friends, and he was like a brother to me. We would spend hours talking about life, girls, sports, etc. David, our friend Paul Chafetz, and I would spend every weekend together playing pool at the Bernstein's, driving around listening to the Jerky Boys, or playing video games. I instantly recongized Dave's leadership and his natural way with people. In the 3 years that David and I were friends, I saw him change from that shy kid into a leader and someone that I would want my kids to look up to. Hearing of his death has saddened me deeply. My heart goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Bernstein, Michele, and Doug. Dave will always have a place in my heart. In BBYO, the guys used to chant something called "Up you Men." Dave heard those words and never looked back.
